⚡ A benchmark for Indian cinema! Vikram gives a generational performance in a high-octane psychological thriller that exposes social corruption like no other film has.

The Complete Story

The story revolves around Ramanujam (Ambi), an extremely honest consumer protection lawyer living in Chennai. Ambi strictly follows rules, respects laws, and cannot tolerate even small acts of civic corruption, such as breaking traffic rules or serving unhygienic food. However, because society is indifferent to these "minor" wrongdoings, Ambi constantly suffers from deep trauma and frustration. On top of that, the love of his life, Nandhini, rejects his romantic advances because he is overly rigid and boring.

Unable to cope with his helplessness and emotional stress, Ambi unknowingly develops Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder). This split consciousness creates two distinct alter egos within him:

1. Remo: A ultra-stylish, charismatic, and suave romantic persona who easily charms Nandhini and wins her heart.
2. Anniyan: A ruthless, dark vigilante inspired by ancient Hindu scriptures (Garuda Purana). Anniyan creates a website to track down corrupt individuals whose negligence causes harm or death to innocent people. He executes these criminals using brutal, poetic punishments directly matching their sins.

The Investigation & Climax

As mysterious, terrifying murders shock the nation, a sharp police officer, DCP Prabhakar, takes charge of the investigation. The tension peaks when Ambi's own close friend, Chari, and Nandhini notice shocking behavioral changes in him. Nandhini eventually realizes that Ambi, Remo, and Anniyan are all living in the exact same body.

When DCP Prabhakar captures Ambi, he subjects him to intense police interrogation. This leads to one of Indian cinema’s most famous sequence scenes, where Ambi rapidly transforms back and forth between the terrified lawyer and the ferocious killer right in front of the police. Ambi is eventually sent to a psychiatric facility for rehabilitation, but the ending leaves us with a chilling realization: Anniyan hasn't completely vanished.

Why You Should Watch It

Director S. Shankar combines massive scale, grand visuals, and intense storytelling into a seamless cinematic experience. Harris Jayaraj’s soundtrack remains timeless, and the action choreography—especially the legendary martial arts fight against a hundred karate fighters—is unforgettable. If you love gripping thrillers with incredible performances, Anniyan is an absolute must-watch.
